Week 4 - Transitions and Improvement

Our pitch deck

Notes from Mentors:

  • Look at cameras and transitions between shots- especially between shots 1 and 2, and the end of shot 4

  • Work on lighting and textures of shot 1 and 5!

  • Love the flower, work on getting it up to speed with the others

  • Try to find a motion media artist to work on the text in shot 5

Team To-Do List:

  • Lots of focus on shot 3 (flower), getting it up to speed for FX and textures, and lighting if possible

  • Work on camera transitions between shots

  • Look into new textures for elements in shot 1

  • If Noelle has time, work on lighting for shot 5

  • Work on fixing motion blur issues in shot 2, and making changes to simulation in shot 4

  • Render out shots with AOVs for Wren (compositor) to start working on

  • Try making AI backgrounds for each shot, no more solid color backgrounds

Personal To-Do List:

  • Make changes on FX for shot 4

    • Smooth out simulation a little bit

    • Make ring fall faster

    • Make ring launch slower, and gently

    • Match camera for transitions

  • Render out shot 4 with AOVs

  • Find a motion media artist

Transitions:

One of our goals for this week was to work on transitions between shots. I worked with Max, who's in charge of the camera for the shot before mine, on getting the transition between our shots to look smooth.

In progress work on the transition between shots 3 and 4

FX Iterations:

I spent a lot of time making small changes and fixes to the FX in shot 4 this week.

Changes made:

  • Timing changes

  • Slowed down movement in the cloth

  • Sped up the speed of the ring falling

  • Slowed down launch of ring

Different settings tests for the cloth

AI Background Generation:

Since a part of this project is working with AI to streamline our workflows, we wanted to test out using AI to generate potential backgrounds for our shots. In shot 4, most of the screen is taken up by the cloth, but the background is visible for a few seconds, mostly at the end. I used Gemini AI to generate potential abstract backgrounds that we could use. The one that ended up working best was a very basic, minimalistic background with some cloudlike color gradation. It was very helpful to be able to test out all of the different styles and levels of detail in such a short span of time.

AI Images created in one prompting session- "Create a soft, purple background image  that could be used for a video about sleep", "Create a more sleek version", and "Create another version"
